Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
Our client, a global uranium supplier is hiring a Manager, Transportation who will oversee the management of the transportation department at the Port Hope Conversion facility to provide quality cost effective services and provide technical support for transportation issues in fuel services. Their main role is to ensure the safe delivery and export of raw materials from the location and implement a new, technical materials handling system.
They will also liaise with national and international regulators, transportation and industry associations, customers, industry and transporters with respect to transportation matters affecting our Client.
Major Responsibilities include:
1. Management of the Traffic Group:
Oversee the logistics activities carried out by the Traffic group in order to assure that product and other shipments are efficiently handled, accurate, compliant and timely. Develop medium and long term logistics strategies for the facility, test and investigate new logistics and technologies.
2. Technical support for transportation issues, projects and other products:
Act as the conversion facilities transportation regulatory expert and keep abreast of all developments. Develop and procure certified packages for radioactive materials transport. Keep abreast of developments in transportation technology. Leadership in Transportation Emergency Response (TERO) organization and reporting to applicable on site Local Contingency Management Team.
3. Transportation regulations plus transporter and industry relations development and coordination.
Interact with CNSC, Transport Canada, IAEA, USDOT, USNRC, St. Lawrence Seaway, Ports and any others necessary to stay current with regulatory matters affecting transportation. Represent our client at transportation groups. Receive the communications from these groups, coordinate the review with our client's representatives and present their position. Work on projects and initiatives of the transportation groups, taking the lead as necessary on pertinent issues. Interact with all applicable groups and organizations to ensure that our client is kept informed of all current and pending issues.
4. Management of Materials Handling Group:
Oversee the materials handling (MH) group in the management of materials movements to and from the Port Hope site, with a focus on radioactive materials. Oversight for other dangerous goods transportation issues (typically incoming bulk chemicals). This activity requires coordination, with the department and other key stakeholding departments (production and technical services). Liaison is done with transporters and other outside stakeholders to ensure compliance with a complex network of regulations.
5. Management of Transportation
Direct line organization reporting responsibility will be to site General Managers for Materials Handling and Logistics.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
. Undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Logistics
. Certification in TDG, Logistics and management skills would be an asset
. 5-8 years experience in a similar role
. Knowledge of Fuel Services operations and materials management as well as knowledge of the Nuclear Fuel cycle would be an asset
. Knowledge of management practices, ISO 14001/EMS.
. Background in dealing with regulators and contacts in the nuclear industry would be an asset
. Knowledge of competitor and customer processes
